Leaving my comfort zone!

sept62019

Wow, who would have that thought after going through hell trying to figure out how to write a blog and have a nice image in it, that I would take so long to write a new one. Seems like I threw the site together and suddenly put it on the back burner. There has been so much to happen over the last years since I have updated I don’t even know where to begin. I guess the biggest and best way to do that would be to just jump right into the water without dipping my toes in.

After 2 years at the restaurant I used to work at I finally decided to leave. For the last year I have been working a new job doing customer service from home. It is definitely leaps and bounds above the previous jobs that I have had. Since it has set hours it definitely gives me a better chance to plan things with my fiance that I had never really been able to do. Still I decided to keep the restaurant gig for 1 day a week for some extra cash. I kept that job and it was a nice little part time job to have for the last year. However, I was still not doing some of the things that I loved, and that brings me to my current project. Screen printing.

I finally took all that equipment I bought and started putting it to use. After some encouragement I took the ryonet screen printing experience class with Cali Mucho Screen Printing in San Pedro. These guys were the best and they really helped me get a few answers to some of the questions I had. The weekend after I took my class I started printing my own shirts. Let me tell you there are few things that I am prouder of than finally seeing my logo on a shirt. Needless to say, I pretty much only walk around wearing my shirt logo! In this time I have managed to have a few clients and make a little money, but not a ton. That brings me to why I decided to leave the part time work with the restaurant.

I finally realized that the restaurant was pretty much holding me back. That one day I worked there I also worked my regular day job so I was working for about 15 hours on that day. It was draining, and where as the extra money was nice, I was pretty tired for a couple of days. So I finally made the commitment to cut that part time job out. My only condition is that I didn’t just take the day to sit around, but instead use that extra 5-6 hours I would have been at that job and work on my designs and screen printing. After all a big goal is to actually turn this in a successful side business that is consistent. I have given myself a goal of the end of September to get an Etsy Store fully running. I have a few ideas for some designs and products that I want to put out there and see if anyone likes them. So I am definitely going to hold myself accountable and make sure I do that.

Trying to get myself together has been one heck of a battle. Hopefully I can turn out something good that I can be proud of.
